Mock Panels

PREPARE FOR THE ROOM.

A realistic drama school audition experience — before the real thing.

You've developed your material. You've rehearsed it. You may have submitted self-tapes and started receiving invitations to audition.

Now you need to know what happens when you walk into the room.

Actor's Nest Mock Audition Panels recreate the experience of a drama school audition in a supportive but realistic environment — giving you the opportunity to perform your material under pressure, respond to direction and receive detailed professional feedback before your real auditions begin.

This isn't another rehearsal.

It's a chance to discover what happens to your work when it becomes an audition.

THE WORK CHANGES WHEN SOMEONE IS WATCHING

Knowing your monologues isn't the same as being ready to audition.

You can feel completely secure in rehearsal and then discover that something changes when you walk into an unfamiliar room and perform in front of a panel.

You rush.

You become more controlled.

You lose connection.

You try to give the panel what you think they want.

Or you perform well — but struggle when you're asked to do it differently.

That is why experiencing the audition, not simply rehearsing the material, matters.

A Mock Audition Panel gives you the opportunity to discover how you respond to the room while there is still time to learn from it.

WHO MOCK AUDITION PANELS ARE FOR

Developed your material? Ready to test it?

Mock Audition Panels are designed for:

  • Year 13 students approaching drama school auditions
  • gap-year actors applying or reapplying
  • applicants who have already developed their classical and contemporary material
  • actors who want experience performing in front of an unfamiliar panel
  • applicants preparing for live auditions and recalls
  • actors who want to practise responding to redirection under pressure

Still developing your material?

If your monologues still need substantial development, an Audition Intensive or Private Coaching session may be a better next step.

A Mock Panel is most valuable once the work is developed enough to be tested.

THE MOCK AUDITION EXPERIENCE

1. Prepare as You Would for the Real Thing

You'll receive information in advance about what to prepare and what to expect.

Come ready to approach the session as you would a drama school audition.

2. Enter the Room

You'll audition in front of an experienced panel in conditions designed to reflect the experience of a drama school audition.

You'll perform your prepared material without coaching or intervention.

This matters: we want to see what happens to the work when it's yours.

3. Respond to Direction

The panel may ask questions, redirect material or invite you to explore something differently.

This gives you experience of one of the most important — and often misunderstood — parts of a drama school audition: showing that you can listen, respond and change.

4. Receive Detailed Feedback

After the audition experience, the panel will step out of role and give you clear, constructive feedback.

We'll look not simply at your monologues, but at how you approached the audition as a whole.

5. Take It Back Into Your Preparation

You'll leave knowing what worked, what changed under pressure and what deserves your attention before your real auditions.

WHAT THE PANEL IS LOOKING AT

The audition starts before the first line of your monologue.

We'll consider:

YOUR WORK
How clearly, truthfully and specifically your prepared material communicates in the room.

YOUR PRESENCE
How you enter, settle, communicate and engage with the panel.

YOUR RESPONSIVENESS
How well you listen to direction, process it and allow it to affect the work.

YOUR FLEXIBILITY
Whether you can release rehearsed choices and genuinely explore something different.

YOUR RECOVERY
How you respond when something doesn't go exactly as planned.

THE WHOLE AUDITION
The impression created by your work, your interaction with the panel and the way you respond throughout the experience.

Drama schools aren't looking for actors who can reproduce a perfectly rehearsed performance.

They're looking for actors they want to train.

DIRECTION ISN'T CORRECTION

Being redirected doesn't mean your first performance was wrong.

Drama school panels often ask applicants to perform material again with a different direction.

They may be testing whether you can:

  • listen carefully
  • understand an instruction
  • release a previous choice
  • take a creative risk
  • respond rather than demonstrate
  • remain open when you're under pressure

The Mock Panel gives you the opportunity to experience that process before the stakes are real.

WHAT YOU'LL LEAVE WITH

Following your Mock Audition Panel, you'll have:

✓ experience of performing your material under realistic audition conditions

✓ greater understanding of how your work changes under pressure

✓ experience receiving and responding to direction

✓ detailed professional feedback on your performance and audition approach

✓ clear priorities for your remaining preparation

✓ greater confidence about what to expect when you enter the real room

The aim isn't to make the real audition feel easy.

It's to make it feel less unfamiliar.

WHERE THE MOCK AUDITION PANEL FITS

PREPARE FOR THE ROOM — MOCK AUDITION PANEL

The Mock Audition Panel sits towards the end of the Actor's Nest drama school preparation pathway.

Your material should already be substantially developed.

You may have reached this point through Drama School: Unlocked, an Audition Intensive, Private Coaching or your own independent training.

You may also have used a Self-Tape Assessment before submitting first-round material.

The Mock Panel gives you something those forms of preparation cannot:

the experience of walking into the room and seeing what happens.

Afterwards, you can take what you discover back into your final preparation before live auditions and recalls.

DEVELOP → REFINE → PREPARE FOR THE ROOM.

RESULTS THAT MATTER

THREE YEARS. 100% SUCCESS.

Every student we've supported through the drama school application process over the past three admissions cycles has secured a drama school place.

Our students have received offers from many of the UK's leading drama schools.
