A national competition celebrating outstanding acting talent among young performers.

The National Youth Monologues is a national competition celebrating outstanding acting talent among young performers.


Created to give aspiring actors a platform to perform and develop their craft, the competition invites students aged 9–19from across the UK to present a monologue from a play of their choice.


Through regional rounds and a national final, the competition showcases the work of talented young actors and provides an opportunity to gain valuable experience performing under professional conditions.

A Platform for Young Talent

For many young actors, performing a monologue is an important step in developing their confidence, technique and connection to text.


The National Youth Monologues provides a supportive environment where students can explore challenging material and present their work to an engaged audience.


Participants benefit from:

• the experience of preparing and performing a monologue

• the opportunity to present their work publicly

• recognition for their work through regional and national rounds

• exposure to a wider community of young performers


The competition celebrates both emerging talent and thoughtful, well-prepared performances.

Supporting Young Actors

Many participants go on to pursue further acting training, youth theatre work or drama school applications.

Actor’s Nest and the National Youth Monologues

Actor’s Nest works closely with the National Youth Monologues to support young actors who wish to develop their craft further.


Many finalists and shortlisted performers later train with Actor’s Nest as they prepare for drama school auditions.


While the competition itself is open to actors of a wide range of ages and experience levels, Actor’s Nest programmes are designed specifically for those considering professional training.


Together, these initiatives help identify, encourage and develop the next generation of actors.
